We had our first son in a hospital but switched to a birth center with licensed midwives partway through my second pregnancy. Our experience in the hospital was not bad but we wanted a more family-centered, home-ish experience the second time. We were looking for a sibling doula. We reached out to a few potential options but it was clear that Suzanne was the right person for our family. She was the most experienced, but also was on the same wavelength about what we were looking for. Some people offered essentially babysitting/childcare but Suzanne was fully on the same page that we actually wanted someone to support our son at or around the birth center with us and was open to supporting him in being involved in the birth to whatever extent he was comfortable.
He remembered her by name from the first visit to the second and asked for her to come back. In fact he still asks now if he can see Suzanne again, despite only seeing her for the two pre-birth visits and at the birth!
I would highly recommend Suzanne either as a sibling doula or as a birth doula. Our situation and goal was a minimal-intervention, sibling-attended, birth center birth, but Suzanne was very perceptive and adaptable to the preferences of our family and so I imagine she would also be a great support for people with a variety of birth preferences and settings.
