Finding out I was going to be a father was an exhilarating feeling. Everything going through my head from first steps to playing catch and even rehearsing my speech at their wedding. However, I was getting ahead of myself. A very basic thing was overlooked. How the @&#$ do I do this? I do not know the first thing about what I am going through, not to mention what my wife is going through. We need help and family knows, but they don’t know, ya know? My wife suggested a doula. Naturally my first thought: what is a doula? Like a midwife? Did you make that word up? Enter Emily. She was absolutely fantastic. She guided us through everything we could imagine to expect. The amount of detail she covered in the months leading up from the biological and mental standpoints were outstanding. The preparation she puts in really shows. She has an extremely calming demeanor with the patience only a mother of 5 could possess. There was no topic she was not open to discussing and has a dedication to truly helping you understand the process. She even showed up at 4 am to a false alarm with a smile. I mean come on. Who does that? On the day of she took plenty of pictures, represented our best interests to the nursing staff, and stayed until she could meet Lorenzo for the first time. Even if you think you know exactly what you are doing, Emily will be 10 steps ahead of you. Could not recommend her enough. Will definitely be coming back to her for any future offspring. Maybe I will learn (or relearn) something new, but her support is too valuable to pass up.
