I honestly don't think I could have gone through my natural birth without having Stacy there for support.
I liked knowing that she would be supportive of whatever I put in my birth plan - or whatever I changed my mind to - but the main focus for everyone involved (my, my husband, my doctor) was to avoid a c-section because of my unique medical history. For that reason, I wanted to avoid other medical interventions and keep things as natural as I could.
So having Stacy as a resource to educate me on alternative pain coping techniques, encourage me to switch positions, and provide relief for my back labor with massage therapy was exactly what I needed. Honestly, the massage therapy was so critical, as the back labor was the dominant pain I was having. With her focusing on my lower back, my husband was also able to stay up at my head, holding my hand, running his hand over my head, and giving me supportive eye contact and words of encouragement.
And then once the pushing and delivery part came, she was very discreet about grabbing her camera and capturing photos of the moment my husband and I met our son.
I would definitely recommend Stacy as a doula if you're looking for a support person to help keep focused on your goals for labor. With her there, I was able to have an unmedicated birth, and while I might not have said this at the time, looking back, I am so happy with my entire labor experience!
