I have known MaryBeth for almost 20 years, both as a fellow doula and a personal friend. When my son Tim and his wife Bernadette found out that they were expecting their first child last year (in the middle of a global pandemic), the first call we made was to MaryBeth. I live out of state and knew I wasn't going to be able to be of much help to them. I knew they needed and deserved a dedicated doula and there is no one I would trust more to fill that need than MaryBeth.
From the first phone call, Tim and Bernadette knew they were in good hands. MaryBeth has a very calming presence, vast knowledge of pregnancy, labor and birth as well as a long standing relationship with most of the local birth providers. She is able to help new (and experienced) parents navigate all the ins and outs of birth with specific providers from working first hand with most of them for many years, including Upper Chesapeake.
As their pregnancy progressed, we learned that the natural birth they had wanted was not going to be possible due to some complications. MaryBeth immediately got to work forming a birth plan that accommodated as many of their wishes as possible while staying within the guidelines of hospital policy. She was able to answer their questions and explain all the medical terms and jargon in a way that made sense to them. She was also able to be present with them for their surgical birth which gave this momma a tremendous sense of relief! She even made sure to send me photos from the OR as soon as our little one arrived safely. In addition, all of her suggestions, support and knowledge attributed to my daughter in-law having a relatively easy recovery from her cesarean, including a successful breastfeeding journey, which is still going strong 4 months later!
Having been a doula myself, I strongly believe they are essential for birthing families today. And having MaryBeth as your doula is one of the best decisions you will ever make.
