Testimonial for Barbie French, CD(DONA), CPD(RI)
When we found out we were expecting our second son, we knew we wanted Barbie as our Doula again. We couldn't imagine this experience without her! Barbie is a kind, compassionate, friendly and very educated person. Upon meeting her, you will feel as though you've known her forever. These qualities are what make her stand out and make her the obvious and only choice for us.
The months leading up to delivery, Barbie checked in on us. We would text after each appointment to keep her updated. We met with her to talk about our birth plan. After we met, she formulated a beautiful typed out birth plan for us to give to our midwife.
Delivery day: I texted Barbie when my infrequent contractions began. She checked in throughout the day and by 1030p I was speaking on the phone with her and she recommended we call my midwife. We decided to go to the hospital and Barbie was already there waiting for us.
When we got to the room, we still had 6 hours to go. Those 6 hours were long and painful at times, but Barbie helped me find comfortable positions. No matter what I chose, Barbie supported my decision and worked with me from there. When I felt too tired to think, Barbie helped me find strength to keep going.
When it came time to push, I remember hearing Barbie say to curl into the contractions and that's when I started really feeling my son making his way out. Moments like that stand out to me, and while it may sound simple, made all the difference!
Once our son was born, Barbie still remained with us for the hours leading up to us moving to the recovery room. She never once looked tired and was always a beacon of hope and light.
Barbie followed up with us when we got home and sent us beautiful photos she took when our son was born! We had a follow up postpartum visit which was so great catching up and discussing how we all were doing and how we were adjusting as a family of 4.
