Gratitude is the first thing that comes to mind when I think about the two very positive (and different!) birth experiences I've had with Barbie as our doula! Barbie provides a truly supportive and calming element to pregnancy and delivery; I don't know how each of my births would have transpired without her as part of our team. Each step of the way she was there to help us understand our options, reassure us, and really be an advocate for the different parts of the pregnancy/delivery. Working with Barbie gave us tools that were so important each step of the way (ex: exercises to do at home to help position baby, suggestions on non-medical options such as acupuncture for labor induction, speaking up in the ER to help with the IV placement so that didnt interfere with labor, etc.)- all of which really helped bring our babies into the world in a way that felt like we had a say in the narrative instead of birth "happening" to us. Finding a doula that you "fit" with is very important as labor is such a raw and vulnerable experience and Barbie was so incredible to work with- she distracted us when she needed to, gave space when she saw it was time to... felt like she was a great compliment to our family dynamic. Worth noting, I labored at home with my first baby and delivered in the hospital without any epidural/pain relief; with out second baby, we had to head to the hospital before contractions really even started and I got an epidural to help support me with this labor- although experiences were very different, Barbie was there to guide me and keep my best interests front and center. Barbie is WONDERFUL to work with and we recommend her without hesitation. Thank you, Barbie, for being such a powerful part of our journey to welcome our two children into this world.
