Testimonial for Kelly Sunshine CD(DONA)
I would not have been able to get my VBAC without Kelly! My first birth was an unplanned c-section after an induction and 2 hours of pushing. I left that experience feeling very defeated and vowed to have a different experience for my next birth. During our initial consult Kelly suggested a VBAC supportive provider and I switched to her, which was such a great decision. The day before my due date I started having mild contractions and I was in communication with Kelly through out the day. She helped talk me through a contraction once they started getting more regular but could tell by talking to me on the phone that it wasn’t time to go to the hospital yet and suggested I get some rest. I ended up waking up later that night with strong contractions and she coached me through them. She was going to meet us at our house to help us labor at home longer but my contractions started getting really intense and she suggested we go to the hospital. She stayed on the phone with me the entire car ride and helped me breath through the contractions and calm me down. She also had called my midwife, who was waiting for us at the hospital parking lot. I was checked and I was at a 10cm and Kelly helped me get into position and I started pushing. She also made sure to bring my husband over to me when I was calling for him. Unfortunately there were a few concerns with baby heart rate and he was op but Kelly and my midwife stayed calm and continued to coach me and move positions and baby rotated and I was able to push him out in 25 minutes and he was completely healthy. During pushing I was wanting to give up and the nurses were talking about c-section or vacuum but Kelly and my midwife stayed calm and believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. Even though this birth was complicated, I left feeling completely empowered like I could do anything. Thank you Kelly!
