Let me start by saying that I had my doubts as to whether or not to hire a doula. It’s almost like I didn’t feel “worthy” of help. I didn’t feel that I was considered a normal client, I wanted a hospital birth but I also wanted to try to keep the birth as natural as possible. I felt all over the place and I was grasping for help through every book I could read. Plus with the stress of the pandemic I wasn’t sure I would be allowed a 2nd support person & I felt an immense guilt every time someone would ask “you mean aren’t you going to have your mom there?” I just felt that no one understood my desire to have a birth coach with me. But I knew I wanted Christine to be my doula from the moment I met her & I’m so glad I didn’t allow others to talk me out of it. Even my husband was skeptical at first but if you ask him now what his opinion is he hands down says Christine is an absolute must for all of our future births!
Christine kept me grounded during labor and gave me intentional things to focus on while contractions were building. It’s so easy to tense up your body because the pain keeps building but she was right there breathing with me, giving me cues to help focus on relaxing my muscles and surrendering to the contractions & she had brilliant ideas on different positions to labor in (because you’re in so much discomfort mixing it up helps a lot plus having someone else to think ahead is super helpful). Honestly, without her help I think my labor would’ve taken much longer & it would’ve felt more painful.
On top of all of those wonderful things, she took the most intimate and cherished photos! I stare at them in awe every time I go through them. They transport me back to that magical day & she also captured moments I didn’t get to witness between my baby and husband. Honestly, Christine is worth her weight in gold and then some!
