Martha is everything I could have hoped for in a doula and more. I interviewed a handful of doulas in the Milwaukee area who were all great but Martha stood out immmediately and after our first Zoom meeting I had NO question that this was the supporter, guide, and birth worker for me and my husband.
First, Martha is direct and clear... a no-nonscence person, which I love! Second, she made it abundantly clear that no matter what my birthplan was she would have my back and respected my choices. This is KEY for me and I recommend it for any first-time birthing person: work with someone who respects the woman first and then is knoweldgeable about all of the options second. This is your body and your journey. Your birth supporters help you understand your options and then honor your instinct about what you, your body, your family need. This describes Martha all the way through.
Martha talked us through every option we didn't know we had! I followed my instinct to switched to a midwife (from OB) at a hospital that Martha was familiar with and where she knew the teams so that she could thrive in her role as doula. I didn't want to be in a situation where she encountered any obstacles or hostility. She was my pillar of wisdom throughout the process so I wanted her to be able to BE that during the delivery. I am so proud of that choice! Our birth was remarkable *and* nothing like what we'd hoped for!
Martha was fiercely by my side as I tossed my birthplan out the window and moved in a direction I'd hoped to avoid. But I followed my instincts each time she talked me through my options and she had my back 100%.
Martha is a deeply intuitive and wildly wise birth worker as well as an impeccable professional. My husband went from questioning the purpose of a doula to considering Martha part of our family after going through this process.
Martha will be one of our first calls when it's time for #2!
