I had my second home birth on 3-20-21 and I had not intended on having a doula. Marcia ended up coming as my midwives birth assistant and God knew exactly what he was doing placing her in our birth. I’ve had very painful back labor with all three previous pregnancies and I had never had anyone apply counter pressure and massage until Marcia. I still can’t believe the difference it made and I’m sad that I went without that for my previous births. I’m typically a pretty shy person, that’s why I didn’t think I needed anyone “extra” at my birth but she made me feel supported and cared for and with her very calming presence I felt like I could relax and be myself and birth comfortably with her there. She helped encourage me to move positions to help the baby down when I felt like I couldn’t move. Our birth sadly ended in a transfer but Brande and Marcia acted very swiftly to save my baby and I will be forever grateful to them. Marcia supported and reassured my husband when he could not go with us in the ambulance and she even cleaned up after the birth for us afterwards.
I will never birth without a doula again and hopefully, someday will get to have Marcia as my Doula again. I would definitely recommend her as someone you’d both want and need on your birth team!
