Our first child was born in a birthing center. Due to medical risk, our second child was born in a hospital. We wanted the birth to be as natural as possible. Shannon was key in making this happen. She asked us questions during our prenatal appointment that helped us prepare for the type of birthing experience we wanted. She provided resources so we could make evidence-based decisions. She practiced laboring techniques with us beforehand which made us feel confident and prepared. At the hospital, she supported me and my husband. She advocated for us, making our wishes known. She provided hands-on comfort techniques during labor. She took photographs we treasure. Due to the pandemic, our parents could not be at the hospital for the birth. Shannon provided vital communication to our family during labor and after delivery. Our postpartum appointment and ongoing texts/calls have provided comfort during a time of transition.
