My husband and I were initially on the fence about hiring a doula for the birth of our first child. I really wanted an unmedicated birth and we decided the best chance would be if we had a doula to help us. I can honestly say that hiring Mary Beth Nance as our doula was absolutely the best decision my husband and I made! We both immediately felt connected and comfortable with her. She was so easy to talk with, relatable, and full of knowledge on everything pregnancy, labor and postpartum related.
I had a long and challenging labor, and I don’t know what I would have done without MaryBeth by my side. She was right there to offer support and advice when I needed it which were more comforting than I can express. I went into labor with a birth “plan” and although unforeseen circumstances caused quite a deviation, I can honestly say I wouldn’t change a thing. I had the most amazing birth experience and I truly attribute that to MaryBeth! With her at our side we felt so confident at each step of the process. She is incredibly knowledgeable and her relationships with the staff at Upper Chesapeake were invaluable, as the birthing team truly looks at her as another well-respected team member.
MaryBeth also made the birth process much easier and enjoyable for my husband. With MaryBeth present, my husband was able to focus solely on being there to support me during labor. This made all the difference in the world to both of us!
I initially thought that doulas were only for birth support, but MaryBeth has been there for us more than I could have ever imagined. Her expertise, advice, referrals, and support around all things pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum have been so helpful and such a comfort. Being on the other side of the labor experience, I cannot imagine going through labor without her, she truly has a gift. We love and absolutely recommend MaryBeth!
