My husband, Greg and I welcomed our first child into the world on February 25, 2021. When we found out we were having a baby many friends highly recommended a doula. They stated the extra support would not only be helpful for me but also for Greg. We are so happy we made the decision to hire a doula, I believe the outcome of my birth would have been very different without Barbie's support. When I first spoke with Barbie on the phone I felt very at ease; she was very knowledgeable and gave me a good sense of what my experience would be like at South County Hospital. Greg and I met with Barbie at our home for prenatal visits and it was like welcoming an old friend we hadn't seen but picked up right where we left off. The prenatal visits seemed to set the stage for my own comfort level and the type of support I'd be given with Barbie and Greg at my side during birth. My hope for my birth was to have the least amount of intervention as possible. I ended up being induced; I was 2 weeks over my due date. Other than having to be induced at the hospital I was able to stick very closely to my natural birth plan where I was able to move freely and access the birthing tub which was crucial in laboring. When Barbie arrived at the hospital she came at a time where the support was necessary and was able to keep me going and stay the course with support and encouragement. When our son arrived earth side it was an incredible moment that I will never forget. I can't say enough times the gratitude I have towards Barbie and her support as a doula during our birth journey, I highly recommend.
