So as to minimize our exposure to others during the pandemic, my husband and I decided that he would stay home with our two-year-old while I delivered at the hospital. Rather than deliver alone, I sought out a doula for the first time. I spoke with six doulas, and unlike others, Afshan was committed to supporting my birth in person, rather than trying to sell me on the idea that virtual support would be just as helpful when my husband was already absent. From our first call, it was clear that she was practical and efficient but also very human. During labor, I felt so comfortable with and connected to her, despite not having met her in person beforehand. She struck the perfect balance in terms of supporting my wishes and offering her knowledge. I told my two-year-old that a friend was meeting me at the hospital and that turned out to be true. I highly recommend her.
