It's a blessing to have Shee’Lee as a part of our birth story. When I first spoke to her, I was so stressed. She spent an hour encouraging and answering questions.
I’ve only ever imagined a home birth, and if she wasn’t there, I’m sure we would have headed to the hospital as the midwife wouldn’t come. But, I had the birth experience of my dreams.
During labor, Shee’Lee was amazing. I was vomiting from first stage and struggling, but she helped me try positions to move the baby along. My contractions were extra long, and she relieved the pain while Will calmed me. After awhile, I was in a zone, and Will and Shee’Lee formed their own partnership.
A hurricane was bearing down on us, we lost power, and we had two tornado warnings. They didn’t bother me with any of it. Despite my discomfort, they managed to have fun and problem solve while I remained focused (oblivious). When they realized the baby was going to come into the world without the midwife, they handled everything with grace and ease. (They even found moments of levity and laughed amidst the stress.)
Cedar came into the world on the wings of angels completely surrounded with love. It was more than I ever could have dreamed and nothing I would ever have planned. I thank God for Shee’Lee everyday.
Unfortunately our birth photographer didn’t make it either. While holding my hand, Shee’Lee managed to get a picture of the baby crowning (!!!). She also took the most amazing pic of Will, baby, and I just after Cedar was born. (And talked to the midwife and did all the post birth checks on the baby and me...)
Honestly, hiring Shee’Lee for her Bradley classes and as our doula was our best investment. I’d put it at the very top of registry/baby priorities. If you’re on the fence, I promise she’s worth it. You won’t regret having Shee’Lee as part of your birth story.
