For my first birth, I wasn't sure if a doula was necessary. My husband and I met will Jill and instantly felt comfortable with and reassured by her. Despite being essentially tied to the bed (blood pressure monitor, iv, and calf circulation things), Jill helped me get the unmedicated birth I was hoping for.
Fast forward to my second pregnancy and I contacted Jill almost as soon as I knew I was pregnant. I had more concerns before birth this time including how to deal with a toddler and she answered all my questions through text or in person when we met up. My baby was also an acrobat going breach to head down and back again, and Jill walked me through what options I had to try and keep baby head down.
The actual birth was completely different from my first (as expected, haha) and once labor finally got going, jill helped me through every possible position until I found what worked best for me. Also, had Jill not been there, my husband would have been the one to catch my baby. As it was, Jill was only seconds away from having to catch as the Dr. didn't seem to understand "get here now, she's pushing!!"
I truly feel I've made a lifelong friend with Jill. She's able to roll with the punches and really walk you through all the options, whether it's positions, medications, or even the possibility of a c-section. She's incredibly down to earth and personable. She's also completely non judgemental; this is your birth. It's your decision how it looks, not hers! She is there to try to being about that vision or else help you with whatever curve ball your pregnancy /birth throws at you! She's able to make a scary, stressful, painful experience one you look back on and almost want to do again.
