My husband, BJ, and I found Jill through a simple Google search in the 7th month of my first pregnancy. We decided last minute to look for a doula and are SO grateful that we landed with Jill. Neither of us were really sold on the need for this professional, thinking the role was more of a "nice theory". Though with all that was happening with COVID and lack of outside support we decided to give a doula a chance. Now we will never do pregnancy or labor/delivery without Jill. Doulas who truly care for you (and your husband and baby), are knowledgeable and exercise it well with hands-on relaxation/pain relieving measures, has the respect of your hospital/birth center, and is with you every step of the way are crucial - Jill is that doula and more as she has become a treasured friend in our family.
Prior to delivery we met with Jill a few times. She helped answer questions, provided us resources (such as setting us up with an acupuncturistto prep for/induce labor - it definitely worked!), checked in about appointments, etc. She has awesome communication! Jill is always ready for a call or text, especially nearing the due date. On the day of our labor Jill walked us through what was happening by text and came right away in the middle of night as labor progressed. Jill was a huge support to both my husband and I at home and in the hospital - she got less sleep than both of us. Although I hoped for a natural birth I ended up with an epidural 17 hours later. Jill was incredibly encouraging and continued to be actively engaged even through the 4.5 hours of pushing. After delivery Jill texted occassionally and came over to follow up on our well-being and provided us precious pictures she took of the delivery.
If you are on the fence about a doula, we can promise you won't regret having Jill by your side.
