We were expecting our first child June 2020 and I knew that I wanted a natural and unmedicated birth if possible and I knew the best way to acheive this was to hire a doula. I also knew that having a doula was not just going to benefit me, but my partner as well. It took a quite bit of convincing to get my partner on board with a doula as he didn't fully understand why or what the purpose was, but agreed since this was something I was passionate about. I met with a few other doulas before meeting with Laura, but knew after meeting her she was the one for us. She has such a calm, warm, and caring presence as well as being so knowledgable in the world of birth and I knew this is what we both needed.
We were originally going to be birthing at the hospital, but covid hit about 3.5 months before baby was due and this made me nervous about the possiblity of my partner or Laura not being allowed. I began researching birth centers and Laura helped guide me through this process as well as answer any questions or put any worries at ease. We ended up making a transfer to the Minnesota Birth Center.
I will forvever remember the relief Ryne had when Laura arrived to begin helping us labor at home. From the moment she arrived until our son was born we both felt so supported and taken care of. She was at my side the entire time--rubbing my back, giving words of encouragement, offering me honeysticks and hydration to keep me going through labor. Not only did she provide me support, but made sure Ryne was taken care of as well and offering him breaks if needed throughout labor. When telling our birth story Ryne is sure to tell everyone how amazing Laura was that we couldn't have done it without her. We joke that he may have even benefited more from having a doula and he would pay any amount of money to have her for another birth. Laura helped me bring my baby boy into this world and helped me achieve the birth I wanted and I am forever grateful for her!
