It's hard to put into words just how wonderful our experience with Heidi was. When we got pregnant, we were told that a doula was the way to go, but we were uninformed as to what one could really do for us. After going through the birthing experience, I can confidently say that there is NO way my husband and I could have done what we did without Heidi's help.
First and foremost, Heidi helped us feel empowered going into labor. In the months leading up to the birth of our son, she came over to our house twice and helped us put together our ideal birth plan. She was extremely informative and provided a lot of insight into possible challenges we may encounter, as well how to make educated decisions in dealing with them. She also helped us prepare for pain management, and taught us different methods of coping. She made my husband and I feel like a strong team, ready to deal with anything that came our way.
At 38 weeks, I started to get nervous about a hospital delivery. I was determined to have as little intervention as possible, and realized that a hospital environment was not the best fit for what I was envisioning for my birth. At the same time, I thought it was too late for a switch. Heidi recommended a wonderful birth center and encouraged us to visit and listen to our hearts. We took one step into the birth facility and realized that we had to make the switch.
During the birth, I had excruciating back labor. At times I honestly didn't think I was going to be able to make it. But Heidi's incredible support gave me the strength I needed to get through it. She was with my husband and I every step of the way, helping with different positions, and coaching us through the challenging low points. Shw was calm and soothing and gave us both confidence.
I feel like Heidi is part of our family! She is amazing!
