Testimonial for Midwest Doulas- Doulas, Placenta Encapsulation

Having Justine and her team as my doula support during pregnancy and labor was one of the most important factors for me to be able to give birth naturally. My first pregnancy brought up more questions and insecurities than I could have imagined and even though I read many, many childbirth and pregnancy books, the combination of the knowledge and experience of our medical and doula team was what put me and my partner at ease. Even though Justine was unable to be in labor and delivery—due to restrictions because of the Corona Virus pandemic—her virtual support through texting and calls was pivotal for my birthing experience: I gave birth to a healthy girl vaginally, without any medications, unrestricted in my movement, with positive support from the care team and my partner, and with no doubt in my mind during the whole process that I would be able to bring her into this world naturally. I strongly believe that, without our doula’s support before and during birth, my partner and I would not have been as prepared, secure, level-headed, and trusting that my body can do this. I therefore advocate resolutely to designate doula care as essential not only before and after birth, but particularly during labor, which includes virtual and on-site support of mother and partner.

Each birthing mother should have the opportunity to have a doula join her team before, during, and after labor and delivery. Doulas are not medical workers, they are not intimate partners, they are not family members—they are the missing piece to a puzzle that allows women to have the most successful birth experience possible.
