Testimonial for Kelly Sunshine CD(DONA)
I have had Kelly at the birth of both of my babies and I honestly can't imagine going through labor without her. She is so knowledgeable because of her extensive experience (I was her 700th birth!) My second labor was a bit more complicated than my first. Baby was born sunny side up and I had several weeks of pre-labor contractions. Kelly gave reassuring advice about different exercises I could do to help turn the baby and move labor along. On the day of my birth, I had a check-up with my midwife, and they discovered I was 5-6 cm dilated (woah!), but still not in active labor. Because it was my second birth and I was 45 minutes from my hospital, we decided to get me checked in to the hospital and break my waters to move things along. With the help of Kelly, my midwife, and some wonderful nurses, I was able to have a second unmedicated birth. Kelly has a calm reassuring presence and is also strong and confident when necessary. She has a way of reminding you of your own strength in the difficult moments. I would recommend her to anyone, even if you already have a "support person". My husband was an active participant in both of my births and Kelly worked alongside him seamlessly. He always comments on how glad he was that we had her there to support us. It allowed him to confidently focus on me while Kelly quietly spoke with the nurses, filled up the tub for me to labor in, or brought a cool washrag or a cup of ice. When it came time for me to move to a different position, Kelly would jump in to lend her experienced touch. Kelly is also the one who referred me to my midwife and is the reason that I gave birth at Banner Del Web instead of a closer hospital. Without her help and the support of the team that she works so closely with, there is a good chance that my second child would have been born via cesarean section. If you're on the fence about whether or not to hire a doula, they are undoubtedly worth it, and Kelly is the very best in the valley!
