Regardless of Covid 19, I found our doula experience to be incredibly positive and helpful. Although Jessica was not allowed to attend the hospital, where our birth took place, she helped me labour at home and drove to the hospital with my husband and I.
After the birth she was available by phone and for video calls whenever needed. Once we were released from the hospital, she attended our home for visits to establish breast feeding. Once we were no longer comfortable with home visits, all visits were done by Facetime. For example, she showed us how to bathe our baby via video chat.
Additionally Jessica remains available by phone. For a new mom this continues to provide a sense of calm- especially when family and friends are not available for in person support.
