I couldn't have imagined having our twin girls without Rachel present in our lives. Our twin girls were our first babies, so there were many unknowns for us. Rachel's guidance and tools that she offered along the way helped me feel more confident in my pregnancy even with a few complications. She also helped with our birth plan. I had decided very early on in the pregnancy that I wanted Rachel to be my doula. She brought me several books to read, and one that I'm still very thankful for because before reading, I was deathly afraid of vaginal child birth. "Spritiual Midwifery," by Ina May Gaskin, changed my perspective about child birth. The book shares many womens experiences giving birth naturally, and after reading I was inspired to have my daughters vaginally, which is very difficult to do when you have twins in a hospital because of the risk, most doctors won't want to deliver vaginally.
I ended up having Preeclampsia, and was induced at 33 weeks. Rachel was available as soon as we needed her. Rachel's calm presence help me in my 31 hour labor. The thoughtful questions she asked and support, the massage, really made all the difference. I was able to give birth to my girls vaginally, and I couldn't have done it without her. The girls had to go to the NICU since they were 7 weeks early, so my husband went with them, and Rachel stayed with me why they stiched up my 3rd degree tear, and retracted my uterus. I was pretty out of it at the end of labor as my epideral didn't work and they pumped me full of who knows what with meds at the end after the girls were out because I was in so much pain, Rachel took charge and was there for me. When I got back to the room she even helped me express colostrum as I was so out of it and not feeling good. The support she gave after the birth was really critical as well. Always having someone check in on you postpardum is a necessity. I would highly recommend Rachel.
