Anna was my backup Doula and quite honestly I didn't expect that we'd be working together given the low odds of my Doula not being available.
When my Doula had a family emergency the night prior to my delivery, I felt disappointed that I wouldn't be working with her however getting to dliver with Anna turned out to be the biggest gift of my labor! There are truly no words to describe how much Anna held me emotionally and physically throughout my labor. When I look back on the experience, she stands out at the calm, grounded figure that kept me feeling safe.
I was origionally going to go through the labor epidual free and thus the pain was absolutely unbrearebale. Anna empoyeed her vast library of massage techniques and counter pressure points to aid with the contractions. Her knowledgeable touch was the only thing that helped during what was the most pain I'd ever felt.
Anna's energy is grounded and calm... yes she's also strong and wise. A beautiful combo when "shit is hitting the fan". Even though my partner and I have a beautiful relationship and he preped to be my birthing partner... we both leaned on Anna to lead BOTH OF US through the emotion and logistics of labor.
My Dr. called me after the birth to check on me and in that call told me that the nursing staff and Dr's noticed how professional and pleasant Anna was to work with from a medical perspective. They appreciated how she was able to advocate for my needs while also respecting the hospital / staff.
Again, there's really not enough words to describe how fantastic Anna is as a person AND a Doula. If/ when I have another child, she's going to be my second call...after my partner.
Everyone should go into labor with a Doula...and Anna is truly top of the pack!
