Before my wife and I met Amy I had no idea about the role of a doula and now I cannot imagine the birth experience without her help. Amy met us at our house a few times before the birth and guided us through developing a birth plan and managing expectations. She was wonderful working with my wife but I will always appreciate that she spent time with me to share tips and exercises so I could help my wife manage her discomfort. Amy was available 24/7 to discuss any concerns we had, which happened after the induction at 1 AM when my wife and I were both so tired and just needed someone to calm our concerns. She was a comfort to Jill during the birth experience and served as an advocate to ensure Jill’s voice was heard by the hospital staff. Amy met with us again at our house after our baby was born – I remember it was a terrible snowstorm that evening but it did not stop her – and shared tips like how to soothe a fussy baby and how to tie a baby sling.
