Working with Jamie was so easy; I felt comfortable and at ease with her at our very first meeting, so it was an easy choice to pick her. My husband and I were expecting our first baby, and I was looking for someone who could teach me about my options for labor and delivery, and be a comforting source of support during labor. We met several times prior to giving birth, and she helped explain what to look for regarding signs of labor in an easy to understand way. Throughout the last several weeks of pregnancy, I appreciated that Jamie always checked in to see how I was doing. It was the middle of the night when I went into labor, and Jamie was in the hospital by the time I got to the delivery room (from triage), and was always ready with things to help support me and my husband (especially the heat packs!). Something that I am definitely thankful for was Jamie's calm and non-judgmental attitude. I did not have a set plan regarding pain management, and although I had labored for quite some time at home, I immediately asked for the epidural as soon as I arrived; Jamie did not bat an eye or try to talk me out of it. Throughout the uneventful part of labor, it was nice for my husband and I to have someone to talk to and help keep us distracted. Then, having her there to help support my body while I pushed was very much appreciated; I needed the help from both her and my husband, and I can't imagine it being anyone other than the two of them. Jamie also took pictures of us meeting our baby girl, and I love that those moments were able to be captured, especially since we didn't know the gender prior to giving birth. Jamie stayed for a little while after to help support in the initial trials of latching, but knew when it was time for us to bond as a family. We are grateful for having her calm, personable presence with us through the journey, and have appreciated her following up and checking in on our sweet girl.
