As soon as I became pregnant, I knew I wanted a completely natural delivery. I hired Jill based on a phone call and a vibe. That first call made it clear that she had the experience and the right attitude to support me. She has the unique ability to be informative without being clinical and put a person instantly at ease. From being accessible for the questions, funny stories, and inevitable "awkward moments" of pregnancy to being a critical pillar of support during labor and delivery, hiring Jill was one of the best decisions I could have made.
My labor was long and intense (26 hours with 4 hours of pushing!), but was still everything I could have hoped for. Jill was on the road to me within 15 minutes of receiving my 4AM call that my water had broken. As soon as she arrived, she was by my side for the entire process. Her techniques were extremely helpful, but I think her greatest asset was her ability to be steady and calm no matter how chaotic everything else felt. After 1, 2, 3 hours of pushing, when I'd say “I have nothing else to give,” I'd look up and see her unchanging face and every time she would look me in the eyes and say, “Yes you do.” There was never a moment at which I felt like she doubted me or my ability to see my delivery through in the way I had envisioned it.
After it was all over and our baby boy was in my arms, my husband also admitted his great relief at having Jill there with us. “That was nothing like the movies,” he said. “I am so glad she was here. I would have been so clueless at how to help you.”
If I had to sum it up, I'd say that having Jill by my side was like having the comfort of my mom being in the room without the stress of my mom being in the room. I would do the entire process over again in a heartbeat, and hiring Jill would be the first thing on my list.
