I went into my pregnancy journey being 100% terrified of childbirth. Intellectually, I knew it was something that our bodies were designed to do, but I just couldn't wrap my head around it being anything but extremely painful. My husband and I decided to hire a doula to provide additional support leading up to, and during labour. I'm very happy with our decision to bring Cayla into our birth team. She provided us with some excellent resources to calm my fears and ultimately help me feel confident about attempting a natural birth. Throughout that process, Cayla didn't try to influence my decisions and I didn't feel pushed into anything; I simply felt more informed and empowered to face this pivotal experience in my life.
My labour progressed smoothly and steadily. Cayla provided encouraging support throughout, and also gave my husband the tools he needed to be an active part of the process as well as give him chances to step away and take a break when he needed to. I also really appreciated getting together with Cayla after the birth was over to go over what happened, what went well, and what was challenging.
