I spent the first 7 months of my pregnancy trying to figure out if I wanted a doula or not. We decided around 34 weeks to interview a few because it couldn't hurt. We knew after talking to Jamie that we would definitely be hiring her. Although it was my plan to have an unmedicated hospital birth, Jamie had no problems if I ended up changing my mind and getting an epidural. We had two prenatal appointments to go over comfort measures and get to know each other. Due to my baby being estimated to be large, my OB wanted to induce me on my due date. Jamie, along with my husband, helped me advocate for myself to wait a few more days. I still ultimately was induced and Jamie was there for us for the whole thing. Although we took Lamaze classes and knew a few ways to help with pain naturally, Jamie was key to me surviving without pain medication for as long as I did. She helped direct my husband in how to help me while she also helped. We used a birthing ball, essential oils, and massage techniques as those were my personal favorites. It was also fantastic to have someone else there so my husband could leave to grab drinks or food and I wouldn't be alone. I would never want any family members in a delivery room with me, but Jamie was the perfect complement to us. Eventually I got an epidural, but Jamie still played an essential part in my labor experience. She helped us ask questions or explained things that might come up so we could be more prepared. She helped coach me through pushing along with my OB. She was so encouraging and positive. After our baby was born, she captured priceless moments on my phone per my request. Those moments are fleeting and hectic and these are just a nice cherry on top of having Jamie as your doula. Having her knowledge and expertise made my labor experience pleasant despite it not following my plan. I would highly recommend Jamie as a part of your labor experience.
