I met with five doulas to find someone with whom I felt a connection, and I knew as soon as I sat down with Fiona that she was the doula for me. Fiona is warm, open, organized, a clear communicator, and committed to evidence-based information. I was so glad to have her guiding me and my partner through the uncertainties of a first birth. My son came two weeks before his due date in the middle of the night; he came very quickly and my midwife didn’t make the delivery (an OB was pulled into the room). With all of this chaos, I was so grateful to have Fiona. She comforted me, translated medical jargon, suggested different positions during labour, gave my partner direction, held my thrashing body parts, and set me up with her tens machine when we realized there was no time for any pain management. Fiona’s presence really made a world of difference.
