Short version: Within the first hour, I looked at my husband and said, "I don't know how much she is charging, but it's not enough."
Long version: We worked with Jessica as our postpartum doula. After interviewing quite a few candidates, it was Jessica's breadth and depth of knowledge, as well as her professionalism, that made her stand out from the crowd.
Jessica was waiting in the recovery room when we came out of the operating room after my c-section. Her primary concern was making sure the first feeding went well. So she worked with us until it was time to go back to our room. Then she visited daily at the hospital and at home in order to fine-tune my technique and make sure we established the breast-feeding process.
As a first-time mother, I had no idea how few mothers actually continue to breast feed more than a few days/weeks. I also had no idea how challenging it would be to learn the skill. I can tell you there is no way I would have continued breast feeding without Jessica. Period. Full stop. And I am a Type A, I-can-do-anything-I-put-my-mind-to kind of person, but the fatigue, sleep deprivation, and emotion would have pushed me to the bottle and formula. Jessica's ability to teach the technique and build my confidence kept me in the game long enough to push through that period.
I would also be remiss if I didn't mention that she taught us how to bath a baby in a calm, peaceful way. No screaming. No splashing around. He's just completely content and compliant while he gets scrubbed from head to toe. Watching Jessica do it the first time was like watching a magician, and we've been able to replicate it every time since.
My husband loves Jessica too, so from both of us, we recommend her without reservation. She was one of the best investments we made in preparation for our first child.
