Testimonial for Sarah Booten
Sarah is awesome. She helped us during a difficult time in our lives. My husband & I had just suffered a stillbirth & needed the extra care that a doula could provide. We interviewed several candidates but chose Sarah because of her personal experience with perinatal loss as well as her profound knowledge about pregnancy & the birthing process. Sarah is a true professional. She showered us with compassionate care while, simultaneously, acting as an assertive advocate when necessary. Given the tragic loss of our first baby, our subsequent pregnancy was riddled with fear & anxiety. Sarah held my hand as well as my heart and expressed sincere concern for the care of our unborn child. Consequently, she was determined that I make informed, educated choices throughout my high risk pregnancy. I am pleased to report that in July ‘07 we welcomed a healthy baby boy into our lives…and Sarah was there through it all. Shortly after the birth of our oldest son, we moved out of the area. When I was pregnant with our second son, Sarah helped us again, but this time long distance. My doctor was on vacation so the on-call specialist attended the birth. Under my doctor’s instructions, I presented at the hospital at the “first signs of labor”. But the on-call specialist sent me home claiming that it was “false labor”. After hours of laboring at home, my husband suggested that we call Sarah. We explained the situation and she diagnosed me over the phone…500 miles away. She insisted that I return to the hospital and demand to be re-examined. I did. The same specialist found that I was dilated 9 cm! Over the phone, sight unseen, Sarah was able to give me sound medical advice and ultimately, and almost inadvertently assisted in my second live birth! We are extremely grateful that Sarah accompanied us on this indescribable journey. She is a priceless treasure to our family. For Sarah Booten, being a doula is more than a job, more than an occupation. It is her calling…her raison d’etre.
