Rebecca was the perfect addition to my birth experience with our third child. I didn’t have a doula with my first two births but now wish I had Rebecca there for those too.
My first two children were born 2+ weeks prior to my due date. Everything seemed to be aligning for this baby to follow their pattern but our baby boy had other plans. I carried him to just four days shy of my due date. When some of the doctors at my practice started talking about scheduing induction or stripping membranes to stimulate the onset of labor, Rebecca provided unbiased, well researched information to help me decide. She came by my house to show me stretches for opening my hips and naturally initiating labor. Her support helped me trust my body to know best when labor should start.
I texted Rebecca a quick update on our way to the hospital around 4:30am. I texted her again at 6am saying my contractions had stalled since arriving. Rebecca suggested I stand and sway. As soon as I did this, my contractions started up again. I texted her to come to the hospital and was pleasantly surprised to find she was already there, sitting in the parking lot, ready if I needed her. I’m not exactly sure what I was waiting for or why I didn’t ask her sooner, but I’m so glad she was already there waiting to help once I needed it.
Rebecca helped me trust my body in the waiting and labor. She empowered me to ask for support. She provided physical assistance through massaging and applying pressure to specific points on my body. She made helpful suggestions about laboring positions and visualizations. She took photos of our first moments with our son. Her calm presence helped me stay calm and in control during transition and pushing. I’m forever grateful for the role she played in bringing our sweet boy into the world; as well as for the porfessional job she did encapsulating the placenta.
