I am one of those “I can do anything” type guys that was resistant when my wife first brought up hiring a doula. I completely misunderstood the role and was actually offended. I was very active with the birth of my daughter, and I truly felt that I was the partner that my wife needed me to be to have a smooth delivery experience. Once I did some research I was willing to entertain hiring a doula.

Then we met Christin. Within the first 5 minutes I was ready to hire her. She was very thorough and really made me feel comfortable that not only would she help alleviate stress for my wife, she would also assist me in being the best partner that I can be.

When the day came my stress level skyrocketed. My wife chose to labor in the comfort of our own home as long she could before we headed to the hospital. As the evening wore on I began to get more and more frantic, fearing we would not get to the hospital in time. ENTER CHRISTIN!!! She was available by text and by phone with every silly question that I had. She advised me on signs to look for and ultimately coached me on when to strongly encourage my wife to head to the hospital.

As we got to the hospital and through the final stages of labor and into the delivery, Christin was right there. She played an active role while also giving plenty of space. She was amazing at helping us stick to my wife’s birth plan exactly how she had hoped. The experience that Christin helped us to have meeting our son is one that I will be forever grateful for. With the intensity of a natural delivery it was amazing to have a faint tap on the shoulder and a whisper to encourage me to grab the camera, hold my wife’s hand, rub her back, kiss her forehead, etc. all at the perfect time.
