Catrice was a godsend for me! Eva is my first baby. I had moved away from my female cheerleaders and was nervous to have the baby alone. Eva's dad has an older daughter who was born surgically and he was insistant that I was going to have a c-section - which I did not want at all! Mid pregnancy I changed care providers from a doctor I wasn't vibing with to the Midwives at Texas Children's. They recommended a doula and recommended Catrice as their top choice. Once I connected with her, we started working throgh her process. Then Eva tried to come really early - I was in the hospital to stop contractions at 33 weeks. I was released but the contractions never stopped and I was put on bedrest. Catrice gave a lot of advice and encouraged me to eat and drink things that lessened the strength of the contractions and strengthened my waters. They worked, Eva was born at 40.5 weeks! My labor was slow to progress but I was nervous not to make it to the hospital in time since I had been having contractions for so many weeks. I should have listened to Catrice and stayed at home longer because I was at the hospital for nearly 18 hours before I had Eva. But Catrice was there with me the ENTIRE time. At some point in the night I sat in the bathtub for 3 hours and she sat on a birth ball next to the tub and helped me through the contractions the whole time (I have no idea how she did it and stayed awake!). My only complaint is that the training Catrice recommended, Hypnobirthing, taught breathing your baby out without pushing. But when I was fully dialated she encouraged me to push (which I hadn't learned) since they were worried I was too tired. Catrice talked me through it but I couldn't shake feeling unprepared and bewildered. But in the end I feel incredibly lucky to have had her by my side!
