When planning a homebirth for our second child, we knew we would need a doula, someone who could “hold space” for both of us during our adventure. Upon meeting with Beth for the first time, I was struck by her calm presence and sincere passion for helping others. Her birth story was an inspiration. Her sense of humor was in tune with ours. I felt as if I’d known her for years. Prenatal and postpartum appointments were laid back. Throughout my pregnancy and postpartum, Beth never pushed any of her opinions or unwanted advice on me, nor did she judge me for any of my choices or opinions. When I went into labor, she was instantly available. When she walked in the door I remember thinking, “Holy crap, I need her!” and a calm settled over me. She immediately came to my aid. Her gentle words settled my fears. Her being there was soothing to my husband. After I climbed into the birthing pool, she knew just how to keep me calm and focused as I melted into her with each contraction. Her techniques for helping me breathe appeared to be effortless. She gave me the confidence to birth my baby. Her prenatal massage was phenomenal and so appreciated by my 9-month pregnant body. Postpartum massage was even better, allowing me to enjoy an hour of tranquility, all while nursing my newborn at my side. I hope that what I’ve managed to type comes close to summing up my 10 out of 10 feeling for Beth. I am so grateful to have found her and cannot imagine having gone through labor and birth without her by my side for support.
