Hiring a postpartum doula has been the key to happiness for helping me to enjoy the postpartum period more, and having Kate as a postpartum doula has made all the difference the second time around. Doing this has been shown to prevent postpartum depression, and it is obvious why. My doula has helped me to enjoy all the best moments with Hadley so I could focus on holding her, showering, sleeping, and eating. More than that, she has given me the most up-to-date info on infant care, having read tons of articles on everything related to pregnancy and child development. She's a genius with cooking meals that are healthy, which is likely why I've lost 20 to 25 lbs already without trying (though admittedly weight loss has not been my first concern, sleeping is!). Even better, she helped me to navigate some difficult moments with extended family members who struggle with boundaries. Some things are hard to balance as a new parent. For example, people often forget that the postpartum period is a time of complete exhaustion. If you have a C-section, it's still painful for a long time after. Some folks are excited about your new addition, and boundaries are super duper important to maintaining your sanity as a new parent. There are also folks who don't realize you can't do them a ton of favors bc you need to focus on bonding, recovery, and your family. However, it can be hard when you are sleep deprived to set those limits in a way that helps you successfully maintain relationships. Enter Kate to the rescue!! The cost is not exorbitant and Kate helps people from all income levels. Sometimes you need someone who can listen and give you support but is also sensitive to get when not to give unsolicited advice.
