Testimonial for Pascaline Vanoplynus
Pascaline was my Doula for the birth of my son, born August 2016. Her services prenatally, postnatally and especially during the birth were invaluable to me. We met for prenatal talks to discuss the pregnancy and make preparations for labour. She provided suggestions for a healthy pregnancy (yoga, meals ideas) and helped me get my birth plan written. It was good to be able to discuss the procedures that are offered at the hospital in order to make informed decisions in advance regarding the birthing.
Pascaline was present throughout the entire labour, supporting me and my partner through the process. During the birth it was important to me to be surrounded by people who I knew and trusted. She took meticulous records of the event with details such as length and time of contractions, and the times at which procedures took place. She was very helpful in keeping me as comfortable as possible during the labour and delivery. She would provide counter-pressure on my hips during contractions to help ease the pain and brought scented oils to give me a pleasant smell to focus on. She also helped me move into different positions for labour and pushing. Since Pascaline was familiar with my birth plan she was able to communicate with hospital staff to help have my preferences honoured while I was in labour. Pascaline’s ability to communicate in both French and English was a huge asset to me as an Anglophone in a dominantly Francophone hospital; when the hospital staff would speak in French amongst themselves I was glad to have her there to keep me informed.
Post-natally Pascaline followed up with me for my recovery and breastfeeding support, a wonderful compliment to the public health-care system. She helped to ensure that I felt comfortable, safe, empowered and informed while the doctors and nurses focused on the physiological well-being of myself and my baby. I would recommend every woman seek the support of a doula for the birth of their child.
