Jessica is the very best! I was skeptical as to what a birthing doula would offer but engaged her services anyways when my sister matter-of-factly told me, "I just would never EVER have a baby without Jessica there, it's as simple as that".Within seconds of Jessica's arrival at my daughter's very quick birth she took me from a state of panic and chaos to control and empowerment. I am not sure how she does it but I truly feel she has a sixth sense! She strikes an amazing balance with the medical system. She is incredibly respectful of the nurses/doctors at the hospital and also the other attending family members. She was very knowlegeable about the various medical options available to us during my labour and I found she provided clear and sound council and did not push any specific agenda.
In the post partum world Jessica is all about ensuring the mother is self sufficient. She isn't there to do things for you but instead works to provide you with the tools and knowledge and confidence you need to succeed in your new role of mom! Jessica's brestfeeding support is a definite must. She was assisting my daughter and I in figuring out our method within minutes of the birth. I recently reminded a girlfiend that was pondering engaging her services how much new babies feed (cluster feeding 10-15 a day!) and then challenged her to think of how quickly that adds up day over day. I told her to consider learning to ride a bike...you wouldn't go and fall off your bike 40 times before asking someone for help after all!
Jessica was highly available. She would get back to me very quickly via text and phone with any and every type of question. Using her extensive network she was an excellent resource for additional services and support. She would send me links to relevant articles and so forth. I have referred her to approximately 20-30 friends since working with her and everyone comes back with rave reviews.
