I penned this a couple days after my wife Mimi gave birth to our first child, a litte boy.
"Everett Jung Wiscombe born at 1:24 pm on tuesday Nov 3rd. After over 30 hours of labor Mimi's many hours of breathing and hard work paid off brilliantly--suffering changed to awe and ecstasy in a moment."
"The hypnobirthing training was essential and in the post partum days since we've concluded that natural birth is a mental struggle foremost. Liz, in her post. p. visit yesterday said that had anyone of many events gone differently, Mimi would have been and easy canidate for cesarian birth. We owe a great debt to Liz for her unflagging support from beginning to end."
At some point near the very end of that 30 hour ordeal, Liz slipped out quietly for about 10 minutes to take a break. Otherwise she was present and attentive throughout. Cold compresses, water refills, foot rubs, hours of quiet verbal reassurance, photo documenting the birth, pre-birth training, post-partum care etc., Liz's services were invaluable. One chief regret we had in moving from Virginia this year was that Liz wouldn't be able to attend the births of future children.
Minutes after his birth, our mid-wife at GW, Whitney Pinger said, "As a child is born, so shall he live. This is why we do natural birth!"
Thank you Liz for painting a picture for us of what birth can be and for making Everett's indroduction to life in this world a glorious one! Whether she can be with us for of future children or not, needless to say, we are Hypnobirthing converts and whole heartedly recommend this as preparation for natural birth.
