First of all, I never considered my wife having a natural birth. I always thought myself in a hospital watching a doctor doing his or her job. Well, that definitely changed a couple months before my wife got pregnant. I remember we were watching Netflix when she said: “I want to have a natural birth”. My reaction was NONE. I thought “natural birth” was a synonym for “I want to have a baby at the hospital”. She was happy with reaction and said “Thank you! I thought it would not be so easy”. After that we had discussed it for 3 weeks by doing research, watching videos, YouTube, movies and having a 2 hour conversation with the president of the midwives in WA. I can say that I totally changed my mind: being in a hospital just in case we need. Well, after watching so many videos, reading, etc, I was so confident that I thought we did not need a doula. However, after talking to a lot of people, most were suggesting us to hire one. After a lot of interviews, Heidi was the one who got A+. My daughter today is almost 2 months. What I can share with you that are reading this and might be thinking if you should or not? I definitely suggest that everyone who wants to have a natural birth should do it with a doula. Why? Heidi supported us in very different ways. My wife’s labor took about 9 hours. So, during this time, she was working really hard and, unfortunately, she could not make decisions. So, I was making the decisions for her. However, on most of my decisions, Heidi gave me support and her opinion as well. Besides that, she also kept my wife moving in order to help in the labor. On the moments of most pain, she did some magic massages that could gave comfort to my wife. In summary, yes, you definitely should hire a doula. At the end, I was so glad she was with us, otherwise, I am almost sure our other end would be that one you read at the beginning of this testimonial.
