As I neared my due date, I debated for a long time if I wanted a doula or not. I thought it would be uncomfortable having a stranger in the room experiencing such a personal event with me and my husband. I thought it would stress me out more than help. But, after a lot of encouragement from some family members, I decided I would at least do a few interviews to see if I could find someone I would be comfortable with. Beth was our first and only interview. We knew immediately that her calm but engaging personality would compliment ours, and we were right. We met with Beth several times before going into labor, and she was always available to answer my questions and suggest resources for educating myself on the topic of natural childbirth. When I went into labor, not only was I comfortable having Beth join us, I was anxious to have her there! Having her there gave me a sense of calm, and my husband has said several times how helpful she was in helping him figure out how to be as supportive of me as possible. She was the perfect amount of engaged in the process without being overbearing. She was an advocate for our wishes and yet instinctually knew when we needed a little encouragement or guidance. Having Beth there wasn't at all like having a stranger in the room. She was a necessary support person for me that kept me and my husband anchored and calm. We didn't just get a doula when we hired Beth, we gained a friend! I had the most perfect natural birth, the birth that I dreamed of, and I know that I owe a lot of that to Beth. Also, as an added bonus, it turns out she is a great photographer and got some really good photos of the delivery process! I highly recommend Beth to anyone looking for a doula.
