I was skeptical about having a Doula. My family said I should just let my mom "be my doula" ;). My hubby encouraged me to get a doula since we wanted a natural labor. We selected Diana because she is kind and answered all my questions and concerns. I hoped I would labor at home and she could help us decide when to go to the hospital. She helped us develop a birth plan. At 34 weeks my water broke and I was put on bedrest. The day I started contractions, I had been on bedrest with broken water for 10 days so we thought labor would go fairly quickly. I called her at 2:30am and she came over right away and I labored at home for several hours. She continually gave words of encouragement and helped my husband know different ways to comfort me. At the hospital Diana encouraged me to try new things and keep labor going. Even though I am a private person I felt comfortable having Diana there. She was an invaluable resource as things came up during labor. She helped us understand our options and encouraged us to do what we thought was best for our family. After 24+ hours of labor my doctor recommended Pitocin. Diana supported our decision to wait. I was afraid it would lead to an epidural and C-section but after another couple hours not progressing I got Pitocin.
Diana is intuitive and knew when to give us privacy and when to stay. With her words of encouragement, and different laboring techniques paired with my husband's physical support, I was able to stick to my birth plan.(minus the Pitocin)
After 33 hours of labor our son was born on the 4th of July. She had a nice rapport with the nurses and was sweet and patient with my parents who refused to go home and rest because they were afraid to miss out. Lol. She got some really meaningful photos for us along with a nice birth story too.
I'm so happy we chose Diana for our doula. She is worth her weight in gold! If we're ever blessed again to have another child I will definitely choose her.
