Testimonial for Heidi Biddle
When I became pregnant and my husband and I began discussing our birth plan for our first child, I hadn’t really considered using a doula. I’m the type of person who tries to do it all (and on her own) without asking for help… not the best idea with labor and delivery! My husband, on the other hand, really wanted some support (for both us) during delivery. Through childbirth classes at Evergreen Hospital, we learned more about how a doula supports both the birth mother and the father (or whomever is in the room during delivery). Given that our own parents and immediate families live out of state (and frankly, I did not want a crowded delivery room), we ultimately decided that a doula would be the best way to receive that support. We found Heidi based on a list of recommended doulas from our midwife at Mill Creek OB-GYN.
We decided to interview Heidi and one other recommended doula, but at our first meeting, we knew Heidi was the one! We appreciated the fact that she has not only attended many births as a doula but that she has her own experiences as a mother to three children. At our pre-natal meetings, Heidi really listened to our wants and needs and I firmly believe that it is because of Heidi that I was able to have an all natural, un-medicated childbirth for our 8 lb 13 oz (and 21 inches) son! Heidi didn’t ‘take over’ in the delivery room but she was there to help my husband help me. Without Heidi, I don’t know that I would have been able to make it through each painful contraction nor would have been able to learn how to successfully push. Heidi was there when our first son was born last month and I know she will be there when we continue to expand our family! We love Heidi and know you will, too!
