Amy attended my second son's birth at home. My first son's birth in a hospital was filled with interventions that caused his fetal distress and I ended up with a c-section. My son suffered terrible distress due to high dose pitocin and for an hour and a half while they waited for the doctor to arive, the hospital nurses left the pitocin running at a high dose despite his heart rate in the 60's. Then I hemorrhaged during the c-section. We were separated after birth for 8 hours due to his breathing problems (TTN) from the c-section. The hospital also fed him formula at that time despite my requests to bring him to me for breastfeeding! It was terrible for the both of us and I wanted a different outcome the second time around. At the last minute, I ended up planning a home vbac. I knew I would need support and encouragement to deal with the pain. She immediately met with me after I contacted her (then I was already 39 weeks). My first impression was that she was funny, kind, sincere, peaceful, and very experienced personally and professionally. She was very sympathetic about my first birth experience. When I went into labor a week and three days later, she arrived at my home shortly after I called her at 2am despite being quite some distance away (she actually got pulled over by a police officer speeding to my home in the middle of the night!). My pain was an 11 out of 10 until she arrived, then she decreased my pain to a 2 out of 10 and I was sleeping about one hour later. She guided me through relaxation techniques and positions that allowed me to tolerate the pain. She was a strong emotional and physical support throughout the entire labor and delivery and I couldn't have done it without her. She never left my side during the entire labor and she even had me laughing when I pushed my baby out! Amy is amazing. She took pictures and sent me a birth story afterwards. If I were to have another baby, I would hire her again, without hesitation.
