Julie was one of the first people I texted when I found out I was pregnant with my second baby. She was with me for my first homebirth and I couldn't imagine her not being a part of my second. Her weekly check ins always made me feel seen and cared for, and she never missed one. Towards the end of my pregnancy I was starting to experience a lot of anxiety. My first birth had been fast and intense, including a hospital transfer for a retained placenta. The day before I delivered I was having a hard day, I felt sick and anxious, and Julie offered to come over and just visit with me for a little bit and talk things through. It was everything I needed. She listened to me, validated all my feelings and reassured me that things would be ok. The next morning I went into labor. It was an hour total from the time of my first contraction to delivery. I called Julie right away and she came immediately. She helped make sure the midwives were alerted and starting caring for me so that my husband could fill the birth pool. She's incredibly intuitive with her work. She knew when I needed touch or words of affirmation. She was gentle and encouraging, and I knew I could just close my eyes and trust her to help guide me in bringing my daughter into this world. Even though everything went so fast it was a smooth delivery. Julie stayed for a few hours after and made sure I was hydrated, fed and had anything I needed. Being so cared for in those most vulnerable moments it something I will always remember. I'm so grateful that Julie was with me for the birth of both of my daughters, she will forever hold a very special place in our family.
