Cassidy was truly my anchor through the birth of our baby. We planned to deliver at Moxie Birth Center in South Pasadena and didn't expect to need a doula, given the midwifery support there. But we were encouraged to bring one in, and just a few weeks before our due date, Cassidy entered the picture.
She is warm, compassionate, and an exceptional listener and communicator. Her presence is calming, and her intuition is spot-on. She always struck the perfect balance between keeping things light and knowing when to be my rock. She was incredibly generous with her time during pregnancy, checking in regularly and genuinely caring about the wellbeing of me, my baby, and my husband, from the very start through postpartum.
During labor, Cassidy advocated fiercely for me and translated what the midwives and OB were saying into something my laboring, delirious mind could actually process. I would have felt lost and overwhelmed without her, and I might even have abandoned my plan for an unmedicated birth. When we had to transfer from Moxie to the hospital mid-delivery, she steadied both my husband and me through every step. She stayed long after our baby arrived to help us decompress, and even grabbed us food.
In the postpartum period, Cassidy helped me process the intensity of my labor and delivery experience and find closure. Knowing I was struggling with PPD, she connected me directly with the best postpartum doula. I can't (and don't want to) imagine how much harder our birth would have been without her in the room, holding my hand the whole way through.
