It took me almost 13 months to write this review.
I regret having Anna as my doula, and I wish she had not been part of my birth experience.
I arrived for a planned induction, and it was very important to me that Anna arrive before I received an epidural. I wanted support while laboring with Pitocin and hoped to delay the epidural as long as possible. Anna would not come before I was 6 cm dilated, and even after the nurse said I was in active labor, she constantly asked about the dialation and did not come right away. She arrived about 15 minutes after I received my epidural. While this was disappointing, it was technically within the terms of our agreement.
Anna was not helpful during labor, and at the one point I truly needed her, no one could find her. A nurse even suggested that the hospital's doula could help me with positioning to encourage labor progress while staff searched for Anna.
I ultimately ended up having an emergency C-section, which was a very difficult and traumatic experience. After the birth, despite postpartum support being included in the contract, Anna disappeared. I sent her a message shortly afterward as a shocked, overwhelmed new mother trying to process an experience I never expected. She never responded. I can't begin to explain how abandoned I've felt, she was supposed to be part of my support system and she just ignored me.
Almost a month later, Anna reached out to schedule the postpartum visit and ignored the long message that was sent prior to that. Basically she had a reminder that as part of her contract she needs to schedule a visit. It was surprisingly right after I asked and recueved a partial refund from the hospital due to an unfulfilled contract (have a contract everyone!).
It's one thing to do nothing, but on an emotional level Anna abandoned me in the most vulnerable time of my life.
