I can't recommend Hannah Grace enough. ??
Our daughter Leila just turned one, and every time I tell her birth story, Hannah is part of it.
With my first pregnancy, I had an awful experience. I was told I was "too small" to deliver naturally becauase my baby was estimating 10 pounds. At first it was because baby was breech, but even after he turned at 38 weeks, the doctor seemed to have already made up his mind. I tried my hardest to avoid a C-section, but between the scare tactics and the emotional drain, I eventually threw my hands up.
Not this time and Leila was also estimating 10 pounds! I did everything in my power: acupuncture, the chiropractor, moving every single day. And I knew I needed a doula. I needed someone in my corner to help me believe I wasn't being selfish for wanting this, and that what happened the first time wasn't going to happen again.
Hannah guided me through almost three days of labor. She thought of everything, starting with setting up the room to create a calm, grounded energy. When I needed comfort, she kept trying different things until something resonated with me. She was always checking in, always a steady and reassuring presence, and she reminded me over and over that it was going to be OK. I believed her because she was right there with me every step of the way.
When my contractions stalled I did need Pitocin, and I got an epidural. But I reminded myself that my goal was a VBAC, not a natural birth and Hannah was there to make sure I wasn't being to hard on myself. As someone who worked out my entire pregnancy, I kept moving even in the bed, and Hannah supported me through all kinds of positions.
If you're planning a VBAC, or you just want someone truly in your corner, Hannah is your person. I'll be grateful to her forever.
