Shamika is truly one of a kind, and we cannot recommend her more highly! She was the greatest decision I made throughout pregnancy, and I feel fortunate she was my doula. From our first Zoom, I knew she was the one I wanted by my side.

After underwhelming doctor appointments and feeling anxious in hospitals, I wanted someone to help me advocate for myself and coach my husband and me. She delivered exactly that, and my birth was beyond expectations: magical, celebratory, full of feminine energy.

ADVOCACY: Two examples stand out: requesting a doctor administer my epidural instead of a fellow, and asking the NP to delay my cervical check by an hour. Knowing WHAT to say and HOW to say it made a huge difference. I was in pain and not in my normal headspace, showing Shamika’s ability to teach hospital protocols and language that sticks.

BIRTH PREPARATION: In an age of information overload, our prep sessions were invaluable, like a 1:1 birth class. She walked us through scenarios, explained decisions we’d face, and helped define our preferences. When unsure, she shared research and context on all options so WE could make informed decisions.

TEAM & SUPPORT: Being able to text her questions, from hemorrhoids to decreased baby movement, eased my anxiety. She offered advice, solutions, and guidance on when to go to the hospital. A friend who delivered at Cornell without a doula went to triage twice; consulting Shamika helped me avoid unnecessary visits.

HOLISTIC CARE: I’d heard that after birth, the medical system focuses on the baby and forgets the mom. My postpartum visit with Shamika was healing. I’m feeling emotions more deeply, and our conversation was incredible, mom to mom, human to human. She supported me with breastfeeding, which has been more draining and challenging than pregnancy. She cares for you in mind, body, and spirit, something rare today. I’m beyond grateful.
